В 1991 министерство имело около 18 тыс. служащих. В состав министерства входят Администрация по вопросам занятости и профессиональной подготовки [Employment and Training Administration], Администрация по регулированию трудовых отношений [Labor-Management Services Administration], Администрация по стандартам занятости [ Employment Standards Administration], Бюро трудовой статистики [ Bureau of Labor Statistics], Администрация по технике безопасности и здоровью работников [ Occupational Safety and Health Administration].
